Advanced Push-up for EVERYONE. Gotta love Core Training
· Comments
If you have been following anything I do you are well aware I am a core training fanatic and huge fan of the push-up and the many variations one can be performed and how to add a ton of intensity.
As always I cannot recommend enough to do some type of workout or exercises in-season and off-season.
NEVER STOP TRAINING THE CORE!
Below is an incredible core exercise exercise. Athletes thank me every time we are finished.
Ok….maybe not, but they do love the feeling afterward and love the muscles they start seeing soon after.
Here you go: Plank Hold – Push-up Hold
-Assume the push-up position and hold (called a plank)
-After approximately 10 seconds call out, ‘Push-Up!’. At this time the athletes will follow and do a push-up and return to the plank position and hold again.
-After 5, 8 or 10 seconds call out Push-up again.
Continue this for a total of 5-20 push-ups depending on the level of the athletes, but also keep in mind that when they fail to hold the plank or their push-ups are lacking proper form, please stop.
BONUS FOR THEM: (well, I think so anyway)
After a few single push-ups have them do two push-ups then back to holding. Do that for 3 or 4 in a row then back to singles.
SPECIAL PLUS: Have them hold baseballs or softballs in their hands, PLUS have them try with one leg up.
ALWAYS a bonus..;)
What does this do?
-TONS of core strength
-TONS of muscle recruitment in the entire upper body
-Injury prevention by working TONS of stabilizer muscles in the shoulders and strengthening the ligaments as well.
-Great for cardiovascular endurance as well.
-Great way to create TONS of power.
Enjoy and please let me know how you like it!
