One call I will always take

We hear it all in the course of a day. Do we ever cut a break? Emails out the ying yang of people asking for this and that….And let’s not forget the phone…Ring..Ring….RING!!! But sometimes that ring brings a smile to my face…It’s my little buddy Zach :) Many of you know who he is, some may not…Long story short: He is a very brave 13-year old that is battling cancer and has been for the last 7 years. Zach is also my BEST friend…There was a fund raiser for him a few weeks ago at a club and I didn’t think he was going to be there because the by-laws stated no children allowed. So I ASSumed it was going to be adults only and was simply going to support him like I (WE) always do. Knowing that my wife and I ALWAYS get hammered with fitness/exercise questions when in the public and hearing that EVERYONE is joining our gym was, what I thought, a good reason not to attend. It was a Saturday night and we were just going to chill….until the phone rang.

‘Barry? It’s Zach. The party started 15-minutes ago. Where are you?’ From my recliner I said, ‘On my way buddy!’ All I can see is him sitting there in his wheelchair and oxygen waiting for his best friend, ME to show up. 15-minutes later we were there..Gosh how I love to see him happy and smiling…We sat at Zach’s table…played Rummy ALL NIGHT. He loves Rummy..in fact when he was on 30CC’s of morphine a day in the hospital a few months ago, we played and he won EVERY time! Last night the phone rings….’Barry…it’s Zach. I am going to be on the news at 10 tonight and I will be wearing the shirt you (my wife and I) gave me. ‘He was happy and peppy….’Ok buddy. I’ll be sure to watch.’ ”Cool…When can we hang out again Barry?” Soon buddy..very soon. I’ll give you a call to get together” ‘Ok. Thanks’..He is saying thanks to ME? No, Zach….thank YOU!

When you have a ‘bad’ day think of Zach and his family. Unless you have been through something like this you have no clue what they go through….on a DAILY basis. Do your best at reaching out to help someone. Not only will you do your part in making them feel good, you are doing yourself a big favor.

Find a friend…they are every where.

Thanks for your time and have a great day!

In Good Health, Barry
